From 6 to 9 June 2022 the International Information Technology University hosted a data analysis seminar under the Erasmus+ ELBA project. The guests from Spain met with IITU vice-rectors Akkyz Mustafina and Nurzhan Duzbayev to discuss plans for developing Big Data Analysis at IITU.

According to Askar Khikmetov, Rector of IITU JSC: “The local market's demand for big data specialists is enormous. IITU, which trains IT specialists, data analysts, journalists and finance professionals, has introduced data analysis into all its educational programmes because these skills are in demand across a wide range of professions and there is a shortage of professionals on the Kazakh labour market.”

During the week, University of Santiago de Compostela (Spain) lecturers Anselmo Tomás Fernández Pena and David Enrique Losada Carril shared new big data technologies with IITU faculty, doctoral and master's students.

The training on this topical subject brought together 110 participants: 80 joined online and 30 faculty members worked in the ELBA laboratory at IITU. The programme included lectures and practical sessions. In the mornings, experts David Losada and Tomás Fernández gave lectures; after lunch, practical work began in the fully equipped laboratory. The speakers shared new developments in applying big data analysis methods with the faculty.

Specially equipped with supercomputers, software and multimedia equipment, the laboratory at the International Information Technology University was opened with funding from the European Commission under the Erasmus+ ELBA project and has become a training centre for faculty in big data analysis. The centre plans to systematically provide professional development for Kazakh big data specialists.
