Publication activity is one of the most important criteria for evaluating the effectiveness of research organizations, authors, and academic journals. It represents the outcome of research work by an individual author, a team, embodied in the form of research publications, and is assessed using the following indicators:
- Number of publications;
- Citation Index (citations per each publication);
- Impact-factor of the journal in which the work has been published.
The publication activity and productivity of authors, institutions, and journals are measured using scientometric indicators.
To analyze global scientific publication activity, both international and national citation databases (systems) are used.
The most well-known international citation databases are Scopus and Web of Science.
