It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Raissa Kabievna Uskenbayeva, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor, Academician, former Rector of the International Information Technology University.
Over the course of her academic and teaching career she went from defending her doctoral dissertation to serving as head of department, professor, academician, vice-rector and rector. Behind every step of that path stood immense effort, strength of character and the determination to keep moving forward.
Raissa Kabievna was a distinguished scholar in the field of information technology and an experienced leader in higher education. She had a gift for seeing new directions a little earlier than others, and she was never afraid to propose ideas that some considered too bold. During her years at the helm of the University, she devoted particular attention to improving the academic process, enhancing the quality of educational programmes and strengthening IITU's standing within the national and international academic community.
Her greatest achievement, however, was always the people she taught. She mentored an entire generation of students — among them today are executives, researchers and entrepreneurs, and each of them carries something she gave them. Profound knowledge, dedication to her profession, high standards and genuine warmth — this is how she will be remembered by all who knew her.
