Rector of IITU Discussed a Joint Project with UNICEF
On March 28, 2022, IITU Rector Askar Khikmetov met with a team of experts on the project “Technical support at the central level to improve Russian language skills among vulnerable groups of children for their integration and improvement of learning outcomes in Kazakhstan at the primary and secondary school levels”.
This project has been implemented in Kazakhstan since September 2021 in 9 pilot schools. It improves digital skills and literacy among migrant children. Assistance in the implementation of the project is provided by the Swedish Akelius Foundation. It provides its platform and equipment (tablets) through which children complete tasks. The project is expected to be implemented in February 2023. According to calculations, at least 250 children will be able to study on the course by this time.
UNICEF Program Manager for Education in Kazakhstan Tatyana Aderikhina and UNICEF Education Programs Consultant Damir Kozhanbayev at a meeting with the rector of IITU and teachers of the Department of Languages discussed the current implementation of the project and outlined plans for future joint work.
So, until the end of April 2022, it is planned that the teachers of the Department of Languages of the IITU will be involved in the following types of work:
Commenting and drawing up methodological recommendations for levels A1.1 and A2.
Conducting consultations on the motivation of students of different age and levels.
Development of a system for monitoring and evaluating statistics on students (enrollment and dropouts), the process and learning outcomes, teachers' reporting.
Publishing a trilingual online news bulletin.
In addition, it is planned to develop methodological recommendations and guidelines for teachers:
- on digital learning and blended teaching;
- on the application of the Akelius language initiative;
- on monitoring progress and assessing the language skills of students;
Also, a number of online training sessions on blended learning technologies, digital learning and other important topics are planned for this period.
