UNICEF international expert Tshering Peldon from the Kingdom of Bhutan arrived in Kazakhstan for an official visit to exchange experiences in using the Akelius educational platform.


At the end of October, Ms. Peldon visited schools in Astana and Almaty that are participants in the Akelius international project, and also visited the International Information Technology University.

On October 21, 2024, a meeting was held at Lyceum School No. 60 with Ms. Tshering Peldon from Bhutan and UNICEF representative Damir Kozhanbaev, within the framework of the Akelius international project. The project coordinator, Russian language and literature teacher Karlygash Erejepovna, and English language teacher Aliya Muratovna demonstrated how they use tablets in their lessons and how they work with the Akelius educational platform in general. It was noted that students were very engaged, completing tasks, discussing, correcting, and drawing conclusions. Ms. Peldon shared information about her country and how the Akelius project is being implemented in schools there. The participants of the meeting noted that the session with the international expert was interesting, enriching, and productive.


On October 22, 2024, Ms. Tshering Peldon, along with UNICEF representative Damir Kozhanbaev, visited Lyceum School No. 53 named after Bauyrzhan Momyshuly. The project coordinator, Russian language and literature teacher Gulnara Myrzagalievna, conducted a lesson in class 6 "B" using the international platform Akelius. The students were actively engaged in the learning process, studying grammar and literature through interactive tasks. The platform not only allowed them to learn new topics but also helped to develop critical thinking, making the lesson both interesting and engaging.


On October 23, an important meeting took place at IITU with Tshering Peldon, the coordinator of the Akelius initiative in the Kingdom of Bhutan, and Damir Kozhanbaev, the education coordinator at UNICEF, regarding the project "Methodological Support at the Central Level for Improving Language Skills and Enhancing Academic Performance of Children in Migration Processes and Children in Need of Knowledge Recovery Programs."

The university administration, led by Rector Asylbek Abdiashimovich Isakhov, Vice-Rector for Global Partnership and Continuing Education Yevgenia Alexandrovna Dayneko, and project coordinator, Head of the Department of Languages Zhannura Zharkanbekovna Manapbayeva, introduced Ms. Peldon to the educational and scientific activities of the university. During the meeting, strategic partnership development issues were discussed, emphasizing IITU's transition to a new level in the educational and scientific spheres. Rector Asylbek Abdiashimovich Isakhov called for international cooperation to implement the best global practices into the educational process and emphasized that attracting international experts and prospective cooperation is a priority for IITU.


The project developed by the Department of Languages at IITU will focus on organizing regular training for school teachers on the Akelius platform, with an emphasis on blended learning, classroom management, and performance assessment. The project will also include the analysis of students' and teachers' progress using a developed assessment form. This meeting provided an opportunity to discuss key aspects of the initiative's implementation and develop strategies for the successful introduction of teaching methods.


On October 24, 2024, Ms. Tshering Peldon, along with UNICEF representative Damir Kozhanbaev, visited Lyceum School No. 210 in Almaty as part of the Akelius international project. The meeting was supported by the UNICEF and the teachers of Lyceum School No. 210, where work is being carried out on the Akelius pilot platform to improve children's literacy. The foreign expert met with the school head, Gulnara Mambetovna Akhmetova, where an exchange of opinions took place, and a discussion was held regarding the plan to scale up the platform in the future. During the meeting, Russian language and literature teacher and mentor Zhazira Kalibekovna Kushegenova conducted an open lesson with class 8 "D," and English language teacher Tolkyn Erlanovna Omar held an open lesson with students of class 7 "D." The students showed great activity while completing interactive tasks and were fully engaged in the learning process. Working with the app not only helps to master new topics but also provides an opportunity to review past topics and improve students' thinking skills.
