The IITU Military Department held a "Day of Courage" dedicated to the 37th anniversary of the withdrawal of Soviet troops from Afghanistan.
The participation of honorary guests—Retired Colonel Berdali Modaliyevich Ermekbayev and Retired Colonel Gennady Vladimirovich Kiriyenko—gave special significance to the event.
The stories of eyewitnesses and participants of the Afghan War allowed for a deeper understanding of the importance of this memorial date. Speaking to the students and officers of the Military Department, veteran Gennady Vladimirovich spoke about the reasons for the entry of the limited contingent of Soviet troops into the Democratic Republic of Afghanistan and his personal participation in military operations.
"Afghanistan is a part of our history, filled with pain and respect for those who honorably fulfilled their military duty. Despite the passing decades, this day will remain forever in our memory as a symbol of the courage and heroism of soldiers and officers," the retired colonel noted.
The attendees observed a minute of silence to honor the memory of the internationalist warriors who gave their lives while fulfilling their international duty.
During the meeting, the invited guests answered students' questions, urged them to be patriots of their Homeland and actively master military science, and shared memories and stories about the frontline exploits of their comrades-in-arms. At the conclusion of the event, Berdali Modaliyevich gave parting words of guidance in the Kazakh language to the young generation of defenders of the Fatherland.
