20.11.2025

On November 18, 2025, the International University of Information Technologies (IITU) hosted a seminar on “Regulatory Dilemmas around Social Media.” The speaker was Prof. Jędrzej Skrzypczak, Head of the Department of Media Systems and Media Law at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, Poland.

Professor Skrzypczak is a recognized European expert in media regulation. His visit was a significant event for the Journalism Faculty at IITU. The seminar took place in Lecture Hall No. 907 and brought together students, lecturers, and others interested in the legal aspects of the digital environment.

During the seminar, key trends in media law were discussed: the international approaches to the accountability of digital platforms, legal responsibility for disinformation and harmful content, and the protection of personal data and user privacy. Special attention was paid to the balance between freedom of expression and the necessity of regulation. Professor Skrzypczak also explained the provisions of the Digital Services Act, the European legislation aimed at increasing transparency in algorithms and regulating large online platforms.

After the lecture, participants asked a number of questions about the practical implications of the new rules: how they will affect the work of journalists, recommendation algorithms, content risks, and media independence. Professor Skrzypczak illustrated his points with examples from European practice and highlighted key trends in media policy.

The seminar enabled IITU students to deepen their understanding of media law and to learn about global trends in the regulation of digital platforms. It also strengthened the university’s international cooperation.
