Courage Lesson at IITU

The Military Department at IITU hosted a "Lesson of Courage" dedicated to the 35th anniversary of the withdrawal of Soviet troops from Afghanistan.


The students were addressed by officer-teachers, during the event a historical excursion was made about the preconditions and causes of the military conflict in Afghanistan, the participation of the USSR Armed Forces in it and the main stages of combat operations.


Reserve Colonel Smet Shagilbaev noted that February 15 is a day of remembrance of soldiers who passed through the crucible of the Afghan war. He told students about the exploits of Kazakhstani citizens, including the legendary hero nicknamed "Kara Major" - Colonel Boris Tukenovich Kerimbayev, commander of 177 separate special purpose detachment of the GRU of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the USSR, organized on the basis of 22 separate special purpose brigade in Kapchagai, Almaty region of the Kazakh SSR.


Also noted that the IITU has a reserve colonel Berdali Ermekbaev, who served in the limited contingent of Soviet troops in Afghanistan in the period 1987-1989. For successful fulfillment of international duty he was awarded the Order "For Service to the Motherland in the Armed Forces of the USSR" of the third degree and the medal "For Combat Merits". Today, teaching military disciplines to the students of the military department, he shares his combat experience and by personal example educates students in the spirit of patriotism and loyalty to the Fatherland.


At the end of the meeting, the students honored the memory of soldiers and officers who gave their lives in the Afghan and other local wars and honorably fulfilled their military and international duty.
