On September 11, 2025, in Astana, the International Information Technology University (IITU) held an off-site seminar meeting of the Educational and Methodological Association / Project Management Group of the Republican Educational and Methodological Council (REMC) in the fields of “Information and Communication Technologies” and “Information Security.” The theme of the event was: “Experience of Developing and Implementing Educational Programs of Kazakhstan’s IT Schools: Updating Curricula in the Field of Artificial Intelligence.”
The seminar brought together representatives of the Ministry of Digital Development, Innovations and Aerospace Industry of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Astana Hub, leading IT schools, and faculty members of the country’s universities. The goal of the seminar was the practical implementation of Artificial Intelligence and Game Development courses into university curricula, which represents an important step towards the digital transformation of Kazakhstan’s education system.
Welcome remarks were delivered by Alibek Sailanbayev, Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Artificial Intelligence and Development of the MDDIAI RK; Gulzhan Zharassova, Deputy Chair of the Committee on Higher and Postgraduate Education of the MSHE RK; and Alena Slavkina, Director of the Educational Programs Office at Astana Hub.
After listening to and discussing the reports, participants emphasized the relevance of updating educational programs in the field of artificial intelligence, recognized the need for a comprehensive approach to integrating AI into the educational process of universities, and reviewed initiatives from 7 universities and 7 IT schools (IITU – BDL, Satbayev University – Omnium, Al-Farabi KazNU – Data group, L.N. Gumilyov ENU – Productbee, Alikhan Bokeikhan University – ItechResearch, ATU – Qstem, Sh. Ualikhanov KU – OzenVision). The revised AI curricula will subsequently be implemented in the remaining 41 universities across the country.
The Educational and Methodological Association defined further steps to improve educational programs in accordance with the tasks outlined in the Address of the Head of State, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, to the people of Kazakhstan: “Kazakhstan in the Era of Artificial Intelligence: Current Challenges and Their Solutions through Digital Transformation.”
Participants highlighted the necessity of a comprehensive approach to integrating artificial intelligence into the educational process and supported the initiatives of leading IT schools and universities to revise and update curricula.
