From December 9 to 15, IITU experts traveled to the cities of Kazakhstan to visit schools involved in the international project to improve the literacy of children who came from abroad and found themselves in a difficult situation.

On December 9, the experts arrived at the capital's gymnasium No. 67 and attended the lesson of the Russian language teacher Karlygash Erezhepovna Akhmetbekova. During the visit, the experts paid attention to the measurable goal of the lesson, the use of Akelius platform exercises to develop reading, listening and writing skills, the relevance of the selected material to the level of students, references to previously covered material and the presence of feedback.

“We paid attention to the use of the Akelius platform as an auxiliary tool for mastering the material being studied, and not just as entertainment. Also, one of the control indicators for us was the involvement in the process of all students, regardless of their level of language proficiency, and this was achieved through the appropriate distribution of tasks in terms of complexity between students of different levels or different ages” the experts said.

In total, experts tracked 20 lesson parameters. In addition, they assessed the use of game methods, the logical connection between different stages of the lesson, the link between the topic of the lesson and the material studied on the Akelius platform, and the justification for choosing a certain type of task: rebus/song/quiz at a particular moment of the lesson.

“The pace of the lesson should be chosen relevantly to the general level of the group, that is, go without artificial slowdown and without unjustified acceleration. The ratio between the study of grammar and speech practice should be in favor of speech practice. And the working conditions of a student with a tablet should be comfortable – each of them should use an individual tablet and headphones," the experts noted.
